Samsung improves battery capacity

The Galaxy S6.

Samsung scientists have figured out a way to pack more juice into a lithium-ion battery.

According to Engadget, the team used silicon anode and then grew layers of graphene on top of it to improve density.

The end-result? Batteries that are 1.5 to 1.8 times denser than today's packs, according to experiments by the team.

In other words, this could mean your smartphone lasts for two days or more, with possible applications for tablets, laptops and electric vehicles too.

But don't expect to see this technology rolling out next year though, owing to it being a research project.

Still, Samsung seems determined to improve battery technology, outlining a plan earlier this year for better batteries by 2017.

The initiative will see the aforementioned capacity increases as well improved fast-charging - in fact, it reportedly expects to hit 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes.
