Here’s Why You Should Consider Dropping WhatsApp in Favor of LINE Messenger for Instant Messaging

When the Electronic Frontier Foundation released its report regarding the online privacy and security matters of big tech companies, WhatsApp was among the flops.
This revelation was based on the level of transparency these companies show their users as well as how protective they can be with their data. One company that received so much criticism was WhatsApp, which recently reached more than 800 million users per month. These people exchange billions of messages that carry texts, photos, videos, locations, contacts as well as voice notes. Now that WhatsApp can no longer be trusted with our data, which alternative can do just that?
LINE Messenger
LINE Messenger is a Japanese-based instant messaging app that has gained popularity in Asia, especially in countries like Japan and Thailand. The app first came into being during the 2011 earthquake in Japan but since then, it has moved on to become a top provider of not just instant messaging, but also voice and video calling.
LINE has more than 600 million users from around the world, which is 200 million shy of WhatsApp’s total user base. The app, just like WhatsApp, can be installed on a variety of platforms that include Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Nokia, Firefox OS as well as BlackBerry phones. In addition, there are no known compatibility issues as far as LINE Messenger and OS X, Windows and Linux operating systems are concerned. This is one major reason this application is continuously gaining users from all angles of the world.

LINE Messenger is free of charge; WhatsApp costs $0.99 per year
Even though these two applications come in with almost the same instant messaging capabilities and features, there is one advantage that LINE messenger comes with. Unlike WhatsApp which is only free for the first one year and thereafter users must pay $0.99 per year to keep using it, LINE is free of charge.
Other advantages of using LINE Messenger over WhatsApp
There are other advantages that LINE Messenger holds over WhatsApp and they are vested in the fact that this messenger has a vast collection of features that you won’t find on the Facebook-owned app. Other than making free video calls, users of LINE can also make cash transfers to each other. Furthermore, this app is more private than WhatsApp thanks to the ability to send messages that self-destroy after a period of time, just like with the case of Telegram and Snapchat.
LINE also boasts of a rich collection of stickers, none of which can be matched by the emoticons that WhatsApp offers. The app even goes further to add an intelligent sticker which reads your mood and then suggests a sticker that goes along with your current state or mood.
LINE Messenger comes with in-app purchases and games that can be played during conversations. This helps get rid of the boredom of just sending messages and making voice calls.
